A little about myself.

ABOUT THE TYPIST

Nicole Bursafy, a multidisciplinary artist, writer and performer.

I began my practice years ago, writing stories, songs and poetry for school yard peers who to my dismay did not want to turn recess into a commune. Thus, the thirst for community and artist space unhinged.

My greatest inspirations dwell in the micro interactions held by two strangers choosing to acknowledge one another.

Human beings at the forefront of my work, and an avid participation in the hip-hop, cypher and busking community I traded a bag of coffee beans for a broken typewriter and began the analog treck in search of my own voice.

A mid-winter stay on Artscape's Toronto Island artists residence, cleared the space and focus to begin writing my first publication 'The After Molly Melancholy', abook of short poems, I wrote on my 1946 Olympia, printed in May of 2018.

Soon after the release, I ditched the confines of traditional income and began performing as a full time Typewriting Poet in the streets of Toronto. From Trinity Bellwoods Park, to Kensington Market's Pedestrian Sunday, I became enamored with a prompts offered to me by passerby.

A short spin around earth's axis, and I began performing at small showcases, then Galleries. Slowly growing my business into the now full time job as a Typist.

Now holding the position as resident poet at Poetry Jazz in Kensington Market, and venturing into the world of customized writing and freelance, I can humbly say Im still figuring it out, and I've got plenty of room on the ship to sail.

Come along for the ride! There are no seat belts, but plenty of   mirrors and a good laugh ahead.
